Stompin’ at the C.V.

The Collective Visions Gallery in Bremerton has chosen the perfect quartet to heat up a cold winter night. Pearl Django plays Gypsy jazz, known for its smokin’ hot licks and made famous in the sultry Hot Club of 1930s Paris. Seattle-based Pearl Django is one of the most popular — and busiest — Gypsy jazz groups on the scene. Their music reaches beyond the Gypsy jazz repertoire to pull in guitar enthusiasts, lovers of string and swing music and jazz buffs.

Seattle-based Pearl Django is one of the most popular — and busiest — Gypsy jazz groups on the scene. Their music reaches beyond the Gypsy jazz repertoire to pull in guitar enthusiasts, lovers of string and swing music and jazz buffs.

When they’re not playing at concerts, nightclubs and dance halls around Seattle they’re out touring, with stops across the United States. In 2002, the group had a career highlight with an invitation to perform at the mecca for Gypsy jazz fans, the Samois sur Seine festival outside of Paris. Closer to home, they were instrumental in founding Django Fest Northwest on Whidbey Island. The October festival draws performers and audiences from far and wide.

In addition to Pearl Django’s busy touring schedule, the group has recorded eight CDs, with all members contributing original compositions to augment such classics as “Stompin’ at the Savoy,” “La vie en rose,” and “My Blue Heaven.”

Pearl Django plays 7 p.m. Jan. 20, Collective Visions Gallery, 331 Pacific Ave., Bremerton.

Tickets are $18 advance, $20 door. For tickets call the gallery at (360) 377-8327. wu
