UPDATE: Airlift Northwest tells the Herald that Nicholas R. Fogle was alive when he was transported from Harrison Medical Center to Harborview Friday morning. An Airlift spokesman said it picked up Fogle from Harrison and transported him to Harborview. The airlift unit arrived at Harborview at approximately 2:30 a.m.

SCANDIA — Washington State Patrol is checking its report that a Kingston man died early Friday after his car crashed into a tree and rolled on Viking Way and Nordic Cove, near Scandia.

The Washington State Patrol identified the driver as Nicholas R. Fogle, 25, of Kingston. Several messages on the Herald and Kingston Community News Facebook pages said Fogle was alive and being treated at Harborview. State Patrol spokesman Russ Winger said State Patrol had received confirmation that Fogle died upon Airlift Northwest’s arrival at Harborview Medical Center, but he said his office was trying to confirm Fogle’s condition Friday morning. Harborview’s admitting desk had no record of Fogle being admitted there Friday.

Fogle was alone in his car when it crashed and no other vehicles were involved. It was unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol or drugs are believed to have been a factor, State Patrol reported. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The crash occurred at 1:49 a.m..

According to a State Patrol report, Fogle was driving a white 1992 Oldsmobile 88 north on Viking Way when the vehicle left the roadway to the right, rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise, struck a small tree and rolled. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels.
