UPDATE, 6 p.m.: A dive team discovered debris blocking the water intake for the Spokane’s engines. Repairs are being completed but it’s still unclear when the ferry will return to service.

KINGSTON — Washington State Ferries crews are working to fix a breakdown that sidelined the Spokane ferry Monday, but delays on the Kingston to Edmonds route will continue through the evening.

The Walla Walla is operating a limited schedule on the route. It will depart Edmonds at 4:45 p.m., 6:15 p.m., 7:40 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10:20 p.m., and from Kingston at 4 p.m, 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 8:20 p.m. and 9:40 p.m.

A mechanical failure in the Spokane’s main engines was discovered early Monday morning, when the boat was tied up in Kingston, said Ferries spokeswoman Marta Coursey. The Spokane could not be put into service and remains in Kingston, awaiting repairs.
