South Kitsap High School students sent home after bomb threat | Update

UPDATE: South Kitsap High School was searched by local law enforcement, with the aid of the Naval Police K-9 unit, after a bomb threat was phoned into the school.

All after school activities were canceled; students were not allowed back on campus to collect their belongings that were left behind, said Amy Miller, the public information officer for the South Kitsap School District.

A rumor on Facebook suggested that students’ bags would be checked when they arrived at campus Tuesday, but Miller said she had no knowledge of this rumor, but doesn’t believe that would be the case, as law enforcement checked everything that was left behind on campus.

SKHS operates on an A-B schedule for classes; today was supposed to be a B day; instead, Tuesday will be a B day.

PORT ORCHARD — South Kitsap High School students were evacuated Nov. 27 after officials received notification of a bomb threat.

Amy Miller, South Kitsap School District spokeswoman, said students were immediately sent outside after the threat was received. Due to cold and wet conditions outside, district officials decided to send them home for the day, either through private vehicles or district bus transportation.

Miller said she didn’t have information about how the bomb threat was communicated or when it was relayed. Port Orchard police were notified of the threat once it was received.

More details will be posted when they’re received.

The district posted on its Twitter account at 8:33 a.m.: “South Kitsap High School evacuated due to bomb threat. As a precaution students will be sent home via bus or their own vehicles. All are safe. We are working with law enforcement to clear building for tomorrow.”

It’s the second incident since Nov. 16 involving a threat. That day, South Kitsap High School was locked down after administrators received what they reported as “a threat to staff and student safety.” Law enforcement investigated and all students were reported as being safe.
