SKSD school meal prices increase

District says the increase is the first since 2014.

PORT ORCHARD — This fall, you’ll need to toss in an extra quarter for your child’s lunch when school starts. And if breakfast also is on your student’s menu, include an extra dime for that meal.

For the first time since 2014, prices for breakfast and lunch at South Kitsap School District buildings will take a jump upward. According to the district’s Food and Nutrition Services program, the increase is needed to meet rising food and supply costs.

Here are the new meal prices for the 2018-19 school year:

  • Elementary student breakfast: $1.65
  • Secondary student breakfast: 1.90
  • Adult — elementary breakfast: 2.50
  • Adult — secondary breakfast: 2.95
  • Elementary student lunch: 3.00
  • Secondary student lunch: 3.25
  • Adult — lunch: 4.50 (with milk)
  • Milk: 50 cents

Students may qualify for free or reduced-cost meals, Amy Miller, the district’s spokeswoman, said. Applications are available on the Food & Nutrition Services website. For more information, contact Ariane Shanley, director of Food and Nutrition Services at 360-443-3663.
