SKPEF gives school district $5,000 for programs

PORT ORCHARD — South Kitsap Public Education Foundation has donated $5,000 to the South Kitsap School District, which will use the money to fund various educational services and functions in the district.

SKPEF aims to promote and enhance public education, including the development of new and expanded educational programs, techniques and methods directed at the social, intellectual, emotional and physical development of South Kitsap School District students, organizers said in a news release.

The organization’s donation was presented at the Feb. 20 school board of directors meeting. Broken down, the award will provide $2,000 to the Lunch Angel program that provides school lunches to students who are unable to pay. It also will provide $500 each to Cedar Heights, Marcus Whitman and John Sedgwick middle schools to support eighth-grade career exploration.

Also part of the donation was $1,500 for the Superintendent Scholar Awards for teacher recognition.
