SK High student crowned Fathoms queen

South Kitsap High School student Miah Strombach was crowned the 2025 Fathoms O’ Fun Queen, marking her sixth year with the festival’s royal court.

“It feels so great going in for my sixth year,” Strombach said. “I’m so excited to work with my court and go to all of the usual events—hopefully some new ones. I have loved doing this for the past five years, and I’m sure this year won’t be any different.”

The newly crowned court includes Amelia Gillespie as Senior Princess, Andrea White and Azalea Allington as Junior Princesses, and Elizabeth White as Duchess, a position available to returning royalty members who serve as mentors.

Outgoing Queen Nic Clay reflected on her time with Fathoms O’ Fun and shared her hopes for the new court.

“I’m so excited for the new court to have an amazing year with Fathoms,” Clay said. “This past year has been so beneficial and inspiring for me and the rest of my court—not to mention how much fun it was. Being able to serve my community this past year has been such a delight and an unforgettable experience. I hope the new court takes in every moment of it.”

The evening also recognized contestants with various awards. White received the Best Talent Award and the Top Button Sales Award, while Allington was honored for Best Formal Wear/Modeling and Best Oral Essay. Gillespie secured the Top Private Interview Award, and Strombach was awarded Congeniality, Impromptu Question, Board of Directors Award and Top Recruiter Award.

Additional honors included the Kitsap Bank Volunteer of the Year Award, presented to Clay, and the Soroptimist International of Port Orchard Memorial Community Service Award, given to White. The Spirit Award, recognizing the friendliest royalty member, was sponsored by Harbor Valley Counseling and awarded to Clay.

Fathoms O’ Fun director Helene Jensen reflected on her time leading the program, announcing she would be taking a smaller role. “This year brings a mix of emotions for me,” Jensen said. “After tonight, I will be stepping back, allowing others the same opportunities I’ve had—to grow, lead and bring their own vision to life.”

The event featured five contestants, all earning a place on the court after delivering speeches and answering questions from a panel of judges, including local business owners and past royalty members. The festival will host a community meeting March 24 at 6 p.m. at Rival’s back room, inviting those interested in joining the board to learn more about getting involved.
