Silverdale VFW fundraising for new roof to avoid closure

Silverdale’s VFW post is facing potential closure after an inability to renew its insurance due to needed roof repairs.

VFW Post 4992, located off Central Valley Road, is a nonprofit geared toward the betterment of the community through the assistance of veterans and other community members and fellow nonprofits.

The post recently ran into issues when its insurance provider refused to issue a new policy, citing it would only issue a renewal with the installation of a new roof.

“We do not have a canteen to provide income and rely solely on dues and rentals to keep our facility available for our veterans and community,” said Gary Heitmann, post commander. “The $54K has set a real challenge for our post to survive.”

As a result, Heitmann has turned to the community for assistance. “We are seeking grants, donations and conducting fundraisers to reach the goal,” he said. “With your assistance we can continue to provide veteran, military and community support in our beloved community.”

A GoFundMe titled SAVE VFW POST 4992 has been set up by Heitmann to raise additional funds.
