Shipyard seeking skilled workers with April job fair

Puget Sound Naval Shipyard is seeking skilled and experienced workers at a job fair in Tacoma

The Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility is looking to find new talent by recruiting more than 150 skilled and experienced workers during an April 17-18 job fair at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center.

The event is to run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.

The shipyard hopes to gather resumes for use in future hiring efforts. Highly sought-after skillsets include chemists, electricians, painters, welders, degreed engineers, administrators and program analysts.

PSNS & IMF officials emphasize that this event is primarily targeted for experienced applicants only. Few entry-level positions will be available at the job fair. Shipyard personnel will be on hand to share information about career opportunities at the facility.

Job fair attendees can apply for positions at the PSNS & IMF facilities in Bremerton, Bangor and Everett. Those interested in applying for jobs at the shipyard should be prepared for on-the-spot interviews. Due to security constraints at the event, large bags, knives, firearms and defensive sprays will be prohibited from entering the premises.

In order to be eligible for employment with the Department of the Navy, applicants must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be 18 years of age or older at the time of hiring
  • Pass security and physical fitness screenings

Employment benefits at the shipyard include:

  • Competitive salaries
  • Health and life insurance
  • Up to 208 hours of paid vacation per year
  • 104 hours of sick leave per year
  • Retirement plan
