Saturday night fever

While John Travolta isn’t likely to strut his way onto a brightly lit dance floor and the much-anticipated Bay City Rollers reunion tour may still be a few years in the making, Kingston will be turning the clock back to a time when polyester was king and disco was topping the charts.

While John Travolta isn’t likely to strut his way onto a brightly lit dance floor and the much-anticipated Bay City Rollers reunion tour may still be a few years in the making, Kingston will be turning the clock back to a time when polyester was king and disco was topping the charts. The Miss Kingston Pageant gets under way this Saturday night at Kingston Junior High School with a 70s themed celebration of a decade that introduced Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia and company to crowds of movie goers that lined up around the block. Home computers, video arcades and VCRs were several years down the road … ah yes, simpler days indeed.

And what community better to capture the spirit of the 1970s than Kingston? The town’s primary ferry boat saw its heyday back then, when it likely graced the run from Seattle to Bainbridge. It’s still pretty groovy, though.

Yes, Saturday night fever will find a home in the Little City by the Sea this weekend and while Michelle Blesie, Breona Johnson, Heidi Nicks and Lindsay Raymond missed out on the inception of the Seattle Seahawks we’re happy they’ll be getting a taste of the good times at last.

Best of luck ladies and stay cool.
