Poulsbo skatepark dismantled, improvements in works

Goal is to find new location for covered concrete skatepark

After being dismantled recently due to wear and tear, improvements are in the works for the Raab Park skatepark.

Poulsbo’s Parks and Recreation Department has been collaborating with the Skatepark Advisory Coalition to provide a temporary facility with the goal to find a location for a new covered concrete skatepark.

Both want the skatepark to be more inclusive and accessible for all ages, abilities and skill levels. The coalition has already raised over $8,000 as of March 26 – with further fundraising ongoing – to use toward rebuilding and updating skating elements at the park.

The elements will improve the flow of the park, replace deteriorated ramps and increase accessibility for all of skaters, a Facebook post from the coalition reads. The project is volunteer-led, funded through donations, and scheduled to be completed with volunteer labor. The timeline to complete the rebuild is targeted for August/September.

Volunteers have begun removing salvageable components of the park to reuse for the summer rebuild. The aged and poor conditioned ramps are in the process of being removed by the city and demolished. The work is being done now as there is a timely opportunity to save on expenses, reduce demolition risk and accelerate the project timeline, per the Facebook post.
