Port Orchard Soroptimist group staging comedy night Nov. 18

PORT ORCHARD — Soroptimist International of Port Orchard is sponsoring its own comedy night featuring comedienne Susan Rice at the Clubhouse at McCormick Woods on Friday, Nov. 18.

The event begins at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

The comedy show is one of the organization’s primary fundraisers for the year with the goal of raising funds for community service projects. One of those is the Soroptimist’s signature project, “Live Your Dream” award. The award is given to women who are heads of households, enrolled in college and need financial assistance.

Recent recipients are scheduled to attend the event. A video will be shown explaining the project. Club members have worked closely with Port Commissioner Larry Stokes on past projects, said Bobbie Weatherill, the organization’s public awareness chair. “He will demonstrate his legendary skills as an auctioneer during a brief live auction and ‘raise the paddle’ segment,” she said. A 50-50 raffle and dessert auction also will be featured.

Tickets are $20 each ($25 at the door) and can be purchased from any Soroptimist member, online at sipobrownpapertickets.com, or by calling 206-349-6986 or 903-952-9718. Tables of eight or 10 may be purchased for $160-$200. Dinner can be ordered off the menu prior to the event. Guests having dinner will receive a 5 percent discount on the cost of their meals.
