Residents and visitors gathered at the waterfront Dec. 7 for Port Orchard’s annual Holiday on the Bay celebration, which featured a pet parade, holiday markets, musical performances, community caroling and the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree, overcoming challenges tied to last year’s construction-related disruptions.
Children posed for photos with Santa Claus inside the Log Cabin Museum and families explored stalls offering handmade gifts and seasonal treats. Local choirs performed holiday classics throughout the evening, creating a lively and warm atmosphere despite the winter chill.
“This is our favorite holiday tradition,” said Michael Watson, a long-time attendee and resident. “Compared to last year, Port Orchard really has outdone themselves. I’m proud of Port Orchard. We really saw the effort and detail that was put into the event.”
Last year’s tree lighting ceremony faced setbacks due to ongoing construction, which impacted the tree’s placement and decorations. This year, organizers ensured the event went off without a hitch, with a prominently displayed tree adorned with sparkling lights and festive ornaments.
“Our community rallied around each other to make this year the best tree lighting yet,” said Eric Worden, Port Orchard city council member.
The lighting ceremony, synchronized with holiday music, drew cheers and applause from attendees. Children and adults sang along to carols in a moment that highlighted the town’s holiday spirit.
For many, the event served as more than just a festive gathering—it was a chance to connect and feel a sense of unity.
“We are a military family, which means holidays with family aren’t an option for us,” said Raven Carr, who attended with her children. “Coming out to this event, we felt the holiday spirit that made the community feel like one big happy family.”
The pet parade, one of the day’s highlights, saw dogs, cats, and other animals dressed in festive costumes as their owners proudly paraded them through town. Meanwhile, local vendors showcased crafts, baked goods, and holiday gifts, providing an opportunity to support small businesses during the season.
