I spat on you

A deputy responded to a report of a verbal dispute and possible assault at Best Buy in Silverdale at about 8 p.m. April 4. The store manager said the problem started when one of his employees was contacted by a customer needing some assistance. The employee called for a store associate to assist the customer but after a few minutes the customer began swearing at him, demanding service. The store manager asked him to step outside.

The customer and his friend left the store, still making a scene and yelling obscenities about the service. One of the men yelled at the store manager and spit on him. The store manager said he wasn’t sure if the spitting was intentional or accidental.

The Best Buy manager wanted the sheriff’s office to document the incident in case the two men returned to the Silverdale store.

It’s not a

switchblade, officer

A deputy stopped a car on Perry Avenue NE and NE Sunrise Drive in East Bremerton around 11 p.m. April 3. When he contacted the 19-year-old East Bremerton driver and his 19-year-old Poulsbo passenger, the deputy noticed a couple cans of beer lying on the back floor of the vehicle.

The deputy escorted both men out of the car and noticed a silver switchblade knife on the passenger seat. The passenger said it wasn’t a switchblade, it was a lighter. The deputy activated the blade and showed the man it was in fact a switchblade knife.

The deputy also found empty and full cans of beer and marijuana in the vehicle.

The East Bremerton driver was arrested and booked into jail for violation of the Uniformed Controlled Substance Act: possession of marijuana, third-degree driving with a suspended license, for being a minor in possession of alcohol, possession of a dangerous weapon and an outstanding warrant. The Poulsbo passenger was arrested and booked into jail for being a minor in possession of alcohol. Both men were later released.

Late for

a job interview

A deputy clocked a blue car for speeding on Kitsap Lake Road in Central Kitsap April 2. He turned around and attempted to catch up with the car. As the deputy approached the intersection of Kitsap Lake Road and Northlake Way, the deputy saw the blue car had hit a black SUV. The 17-year-old driver of the blue car said his brakes failed. No one was injured in the collision.

The deputy pulled the teenager out of the car and handcuffed him. He told the deputy he had some marijuana in his pocket. The boy said, “I admit I was driving recklessly. I was trying to make it to a job interview at Kitsap Golf and Country Club.” He also admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day, but “it was not a factor” in the collision.

The teenager was detained at the scene and issued a criminal citation with a court date summoning him for reckless driving and no driver’s license. He also received a traffic infraction for having no insurance. He was released at the scene.

Arson over

a video game

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue and a sheriff’s deputy responded to a fire at Countryside Mobile Home Park on Old Military Road in East Bremerton shortly after 5 a.m. March 29. The deputy arrived and found people trying to extinguish the fire which had engulfed the side of the trailer. They said someone had thrown gas at their house trying to burn it down.

Once the blaze was extinguished, the deputy found several pieces of broken glass bottles on the ground near the trailer. One beer bottle was still intact and had a rag stuffed inside that smelled like gasoline.

A 20-year-old man and his 17-year old sister live in the trailer and the man said there was an altercation earlier that day between some males over a video game.

The 17-year-old girl said some other young men showed up at the trailer to retrieve a video game that her 17-year-old nephew had and afterwards he received a text message from someone saying they were going to beat up whoever took their game and threatened to burn the trailer down. The 17-year-old boy showed the deputy the text message.

The case was referred to the Kitsap County Fire Marshal’s Office and sheriff’s detectives for further investigation.
