North Kitsap Babe Ruth team alive after one loss

ROCK SPRINGS, WYO. — North Kitsap suffered their first loss of the Babe Ruth 15-year-old regional tournament on Monday — but they’re still two wins from the World Series.

The North Kitsap team, which finished third in the nation last year as 14-year-olds, was beat by tournament favorite Beaverton 4-3.

Jeff Camus’ two home runs weren’t enough to overcome the Beaverton lead.

For North, Josh Beahan pitched into the sixth inning and was followed by reliever Blake Buel.

The loss makes North Kitsap’s road more difficult. Now they must play Hazel Dell Metro, the team that finished one spot above North Kitsap at last year’s World Series in Longview.

If North Kitsap wins that game, they will need one more win to reach the World Series.

In the championship game, they would face the winner of Beaverton and the second-ranked team from the National Division.

For North Kitsap, Monday’s loss stopped a string of three straight wins in the tournament.

They had scored a 16-1 win over the host team from Rock Springs on Thursday, then followed it with a 10-0 win over a team from Gillette, Wyo. Friday morning.

On Saturday, North Kitsap had defeated Montana 8-2 to go 3-0.

Jordan Henry pitched all seven innings in that win, Kevin Gartin had pitched the first game, and Miles Thomson had started the second.

This year’s team is hoping to repeat the success of last year’s. While 14-year-olds, they battled through the state and regional tournament and made it to the World Series in Longview, where they finished third in the nation.

This year’s team has been equally dominant until now, sweeping their way through the state tournament, which they hosted, and winning their first three games in regionals.
