NKF&R honor recruits | NKF&R | June

Here’s what is coming up at North Kitsap Fire and Rescue:

Life Jacket Loaners at Buck Lake

Despite the fact that our entire stock of loaner life jackets has been stolen two times, we are restocking the board at Buck Lake Park in hopes that folks will help us keep the loaners remain available for everyone. Life jackets to borrow or to own are also available at our Paul T. Nichol headquarters on Miller Bay Road. Call us at (360) 297-3619 to schedule an appointment.

Kids Day in Kitsap

Kids Day at the Fairgrounds: Join families from across Kitsap County at this fun-filled and free event from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. There will be entertainment, safety information, live fire and rescue demonstrations.

Car seat checks

Car seat checks: Free car seat checks are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m the second Saturday of every month at the headquarters station.

Recruit graduation

Recruit Academy graduation will be held on Saturday, June 19, and we’re inviting the public to join us after the ceremonies for an open house and demonstration of skills at 4 p.m. This group of volunteers has worked diligently four days a week since the beginning of their academy experience to learn the basics of firefighting.

Join us to see them in action and to celebrate their first step toward careers in the fire service.

CPR/First Aid classes

Upcoming CPR/First Aid Class from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at our headquarters station. Tuition is $40 and must be paid in advance. For more information, call us at (360) 297-3619.

Fourth of July raffle

Want to lead the parade? Celebrate a birthday at the fire station? If you like the sound of either one of these prizes, you’ll want to invest in the raffle tickets that will be available at our fire stations as well as at the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce office. Tickets are $1 each, with proceeds going toward Kingston’s Fourth of July celebrations.

The winning tickets will be drawn: one, for two seats on our flagship engine at the beginning of the Fourth of July Parade as well as reserved parking and viewing space to watch the rest of the parade; and the other, for a birthday party with all the trimmings at the fire station on a date of the winner’s choosing. The winning tickets will be drawn at Tiny Town on July 3.

Safe rider citations

Safe Rider citations are back. We’ll be on the lookout for kids who are wearing their helmets properly while out and about on skateboards, scooters, skates and bikes. If we’re not on our way to an emergency, we’ll stop and award kids with a card that entitles them to a free ice cream cone at McDonald’s.

Mock crash

In May NKF&R crews joined with other public safety agencies and the high school to produce a realistic reproduction of a fatal car crash caused by an impaired and inattentive driver. We hope the powerful messages of the mock crash will continue to help keep students safe as we head toward the end of the school year.
