New NKSD school board member sworn in

Track resurface at NK High School next summer

New North Kitsap school board member Barbara Waggoner was officially sworn into her new position by Poulsbo Mayor Becky Erickson Oct. 13, replacing Cindy Webster-Martinson who resigned before the school year.

Also during the schoolboard meeting, a management report was given about replacing the track surface at North Kitsap High School. The existing track surface at NK’s football field is set to be replaced next summer through roughly $300,000 from the school district’s Capital Projects fund.

The project will remove track surfacing and install new surfacing on the entire track, which surrounds the football field. According to school board documents, current track material is being delaminated in many areas and cannot be attached. “This project will address these ongoing maintenance concerns and improve athlete safety when competing in track events,” documents read.

Final pricing and scope clarifications will be negotiated between the contractor and school district prior to final board action. Upon contract approval, the contractor will start on the project after June 16, 2023 with a proposed schedule to complete by July 31, 2023.
