BANGOR — Naval Base Kitsap – Bangor has reported a 12,000-gallon sewage spill into the stormwater collection system that serves the base, the Kitsap Public Health District reported Dec. 7.

A portion of that sewage has been discharged into a stream that flows to Bangor Lake, which subsequently flows through a culvert under Sea Lion Road and into Hood Canal.

The volume that was discharged to the stream, lake and Hood Canal is unknown, but that information should be available Dec. 8, the health district reported.

“Due to the facts that significant dilution will occur both in stream and in lake, both are in a wooded areas, and the point of discharge into Hood Canal has no public access, no specific health advisory is being issued by the Kitsap Public Health District at this time,” the health district reported.
