Narrows League honors North Kitsap players

GIG HARBOR — Three North Kitsap High School volleyball players received all-league honors over the weekend. Outsider hitters Jennifer Buckner and Liz Tomsyck and libero Jamie Heins made all-league second team for the Vikings.

For junior Buckner, the award bears much significance, head coach Clay Blackwood said.

“It was (Buckner’s) first year in volleyball, so that’s pretty big,” said Blackwood. “She made an impact on the team and that’s a big boost to her confidence. That’s always something big for the kids.”

Senior Tomsyck earned honorable mention last year, Blackwood said, so the move up to second team is an improvement.

For Heins, the award is the culmination of all the bumps and bruises she took as team libero. The position is strictly defense.

“For (Heins), it means all her hard work paid off and is recognized,” Blackwood said.
