The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the motorcyclist who was killed Wednesday in a collision with a truck.
John David Harris, 36, of Port Orchard was pronounced dead on the scene after his 2007 Yamaha Star motorcycle was hit head-on by a 2004 Chevy truck. Two 19-year-olds in the truck were not injured.
The accident occurred around 6:10 p.m. at the intersection of Kitsap Mall Blvd. and NW Randall Way. According to KCSO officials, the driver was detained and questioned at the scene, but was found to be not impaired.
Family and friends noted that Harris was a Navy Lt. Commander stationed on Whidbey Island.
A fund has been established to help pay for out-of-state family members to travel to be with John’s wife, Shannon Harris and help with memorial arrangements.

On Wednesday evening, a 36-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident at the intersection of NW Randall Way and Kitsap Mall Blvd.
Responders came onto the scene around 6:15 p.m. where a black Chevy truck had hit the motorcyclist, according to Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office Public Affairs Deputy Scott Wilson.
“We believe that we have an issue with failure to yield on part of the truck driver to oncoming traffic,” Wilson said.
Investigators believe the motorcycle was heading toward Highway 3 when the truck tried to make a lefthand turn onto NW Randall Way.
The two 19-year-old men in the truck were not injured, and there is no suspicion of the driver being under the influence of any drugs or alcohol, Wilson said.
“The driver was fully cooperative,” said Wilson. “We’ll know more when they finish the whole investigation.”
Engine 51, Ladder 51 and Medic 51 along with the battalion chief responded to the scene along with Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies. NW Randall Way and Kitsap Mall Blvd. was shut down for at least four hours Wednesday evening for an investigation.
More details will be released upon the notification for next of kin.
