KINGSTON — Commuters trying to work their way through four different construction projects along the Miller Bay Road corridor may notice something a little new this week. A stretch of roadway south of Indianola Road has now been paved and turned into a one-lane bypass, said Kitsap County Public Works project and design manager Dick Dadisman.

Two weeks ago, temporary signals were installed to regulate traffic on the then one-lane road after work hours. Those have since been removed and there are two lanes for motorists to use after crews have finished for the day.

“The bridge is not finished,” Dadisman said of the culvert replacement project over Grover’s Creek. “We put in the bypass road and shifted traffic to work on the bridge.”

The other projects include installing traffic lights at Miller Bay and West Kingston roads, Miller Bay and Indianola roads and Miller Bay and Gunderson roads. Dadisman said those projects are all on schedule, and the intersection at Miller Bay and West Kingston roads is scheduled to be finished before school starts in September. Puget Sound Energy is also working along Miller Bay Road in preparation for a new Kingston substation.

Commuters using the Miller Bay Road corridor will continue to encounter long wait times, potentially idling for almost a half hour. Dadisman encourages residents to seek detour routes to avoid construction.
