Man in gorilla suit beat up by girlfriend

A 26-year-old South Kitsap woman was arrested for assault last weekend after allegedly hitting her boyfriend for dancing with another woman, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office reported.

According to the incident report, deputies responded to Mile Hill Drive and Whittier Avenue around 12:40 a.m. Nov. 1 after witnesses called 911 to report that a man was running and yelling for help.

When deputies arrived, they found a man in a gorilla costume lying face down in a puddle and bleeding from his left eye.

The 29-year-old man told deputies that he and his girlfriend had dressed up for Halloween and gone to nearby bar. While they were there, he said his girlfriend got upset, accusing him of dancing with another girl, and hit him in the face.

He said he then walked away from the bar toward Mile Hill Drive, but his girlfriend followed him and hit him on the head again, then took off her high-heeled shoe and hit him in the right eye with it.

He said he then began calling out for help, as she had his cell phone. Near Whittier Avenue, the victim said his girlfriend “tackled him from behind, pulled down his costume pants” and pushed him into the puddle, which was when the deputies arrived.

Deputies then asked the suspect what happened. She said she was dancing with another man, which made her boyfriend angry and he left the bar. When she followed him outside, she said he pushed her, so she hit him with her shoe. She admitted she had been drinking “a lot.”

Deputies spoke to the manager of the bar, who said he saw the victim dancing with the “Bacardi girl,” but there had been no fight inside the bar. Other staff said they had not seen the assault, but that customers told them the suspect “clocked” the victim outside.

The suspect was then arrested for third-degree assault, and booked into the Kitsap County Jail under $50,000 bail.
