Man caught 2nd time trying to escape

A 31-year-old Mountlake Terrace man was able to escape the law once – but not a second time.

He did escape Nov. 25 at around 9:22 p.m. while parked in a Silverdale store’s lot. The man in a gold Acura MDX had a felony warrant out for him for theft in the second degree.

When police made contact, he put the car in reverse, maneuvered between two patrol cars and sped off, but not before hitting a nearby parked vehicle, along with the passenger side of one of the police cars.

After looking at surveillance video from the store, he was charged with two counts of hit and run, reckless driving and failure to obey.

The vehicle was seen again Dec. 3 in a different store parking lot in East Bremerton. The man was sleeping in the car this time. Police put spike strips around the vehicle so he couldn’t escape. He still tried to, however, pushing up against a patrol car.

A Kitsap County deputy broke through the passenger side window, grabbed the man’s hair and arm, and shot spray into his eyes. Once he finally gave up, a water bottle was used to flush his eyes.

Bail was set at $100,000.
