An 18-year-old man has been booked into Kitsap County Jail and is facing a charge of second-degree murder after allegedly stabbing and killing his 16-year-old brother with a knife June 2, the Bremerton Police Department announced in a news release.
At about 6:30 p.m., BPD patrol officers were dispatched to an assault in progress in the 200 block of S. Cambrian Ave with multiple people present. While en route, they were advised it was a “stabbing”. Bremerton Fire Department and Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies also responded.
When officers arrived, the 18-year-old man was detained and then arrested. The victim, the younger brother of the suspect, died at the scene despite efforts to render emergency aid, per BPD. Nearby on the ground of the residence was a 5-inch knife believed to be the murder weapon, court documents state.
The suspect, James Young Jr., pleaded not guilty in his court appearance June 3.
The suspect’s father said he and his wife live in a van parked there, while the brothers lived on the porch of the house, which was rented by another party. Court documents say the family is experiencing homelessness.
Young Jr. accused his younger brother of being lazy and not cleaning up after himself, per documents. Court papers say Young Jr. became upset because his dad took his younger brother’s side about garbage left on the porch. The discussion was “one-sided” then became “heated.”
