Man allegedly brandished stun gun at officers after stealing from deli

Nathaniel Gregory was charged with assault, theft, and resisting arrest

A 44-year-old man was arrested last week in Bremerton after allegedly attempting to steal from a deli and then attempting to apply a taser to police officers.

According to court documents, Nathaniel Gregory entered Yak’s Deli , took a hand basket and some other items, but did not have money to pay for them. When confronted by the store owner, Gregory allegedly dropped the items and left with the hand basket.

Gregory was located by Bremerton Police in front of the Winco grocery store. As soon as one of the officers parked and exited his patrol vehicle, Gregory turned and walked away, according to officers. The officer called for Gregory to stop and that’s when the suspect turned around with what appeared to be a flashlight taser and pointed it at the them, a statement of probable cause reads.

“This caused me to back off from my attempted contact and draw my own taser because I was concerned he was going to try and injure or incapacitate me with his taser,” the officer states in the documents.

Gregory then allegedly began to jog away from the officer towards another officer.

“He was jogging towards [officer’s name redacted] and I was concerned he may attempt to use the taser on him,” the BPD officer wrote. “At that point I deployed my taser at Gregory. The taser had no effect.”

One of the officers then took hold of Gregory and told him to get down on the ground, which he reportedly refused. An officer then applied another stun with their taser to his lower back, causing Gregory to fall to the ground. Yet another stun was delivered to the suspect as he was still not compliant with the officers, the report reads.

The officers secured Gregory in hand restraints and transported him to Kitsap County Jail for charges of Assault in the third degree, Resisting Arrest and Theft in the third degree. Gregory’s bail was set at $65,000.
