Man airlifted after shots fired in Poulsbo

POULSBO – A man firing shots was reported shortly after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at a residence on the 31000 of Laughing Dog Ave, which is south of Port Gamble.

Police later stated that a 61-year-old man had reportedly become suicidal. Shortly after police arrived on scene, they began evacuating homes along the street, according to scanner traffic. Other officers approached the property at various angles in an attempt to get eyes on the man.

An officer stated that they could hear shots fired into the woods, and later they heard a muffled gun shot. After that, they approached the man, who appeared to be suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The man was eventually airlifted from Breidablick Elementary’s ballfied to Harborview Medical Center’s trauma center, according to the Poulsbo Fire Department.

One neighbor on scene described the situation as “heartbreaking.”
