A 29-year-old woman accused of stealing and cashing checks from a business she cleaned on the weekend has been charged in Kitsap County District Court Jan. 12.

Brittany Ann Martin, of Port Orchard, was charged with two counts of forgery, according to court documents.

Charging papers stated a business contacted the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 9 to report the theft of several checks. The victim reported the checks were cashed by the suspect, who had been employed to clean a business eight months ago.

The business’ account manager reported that four checks — with a forged signature totaling $3,600 — were cashed at a local bank.

The memo line of a $350 check stated “Christmas Bonus” was dated Dec. 24, while two other checks had “Payroll” on them, according to charging papers.

The suspect’s photo from her Facebook account matched the bank’s photo.

Martin was arrested and booked into the Kitsap County Jail on Jan. 11, but released on bail Jan. 13.
