Two Kitsap County men were among 21 arrested in Pierce County as part of a Washington State Patrol operation that targeted child sex predators.
Listed among those arrested are David P. Gasvoda, 57, from Port Orchard, and Timothy A. Cole, 29, from Bremerton.
During the operation, undercover officers communicated over the internet with people interested in having sex with children. Hundreds of people responded, according to WSP.
Those arrested allegedly traveled to meet with undercover detectives posing as young girls and boys with the intent to engage in sexual activity with children as young as 9 years old.
“While the internet is a powerful tool for our nation, criminals using it to target our communities necessitates a need for this type of proactive investigations by our law enforcement troopers and partners in order to combat these horrible crimes,” WSP Chief John R. Batiste said.
“This operation is protecting our vulnerable children and making communities safer.”
Dubbed Operation Net Nanny, this was the 13th operation around the state that targeted people exploiting children via the internet. Overall, the operations have resulted in the arrests of 205 people and the rescue of more than 30 child victims, a WSP press release stated.
