Man says he took gun only to teach a lesson
A 33-year-old Port Orchard man was in Kitsap County Superior Court May 13 after taking a relative’s gun for what he said was safekeeping and to teach them a lesson.
Bail was $50,000. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for possession of a stolen firearm.
Court records say Bremerton police arrested the man May 12 at 5:46 p.m. in the 1100 block of 12th Street. The victim’s husband’s cousin was suspected of taking the gun from her purse. He denied having it, but police found it in his backpack. He said it was left on a shelf unattended for a long time so he held onto it for safekeeping. He said he didn’t immediately give it back to them to teach them a lesson.
Man, 20, girl, 13, have baby; not supposed to have contact
Bail was set at $250,000 for a 23-year-old Bremerton man arrested on a warrant from last month on four charges related to sex crimes.
He faces 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines for each of two counts of possession of depictions of a minor under age 13; and a year in jail and $5,000 in fines each for two counts of violations of court orders.
He was in Superior Court May 16.
Court records show the suspect sent a Facebook message to a girl who has a protection order against him that prohibits any communication that is not about their shared daughter, who was born from the initial rape crime he was convicted of from 2023. Officers found sexually explicit videos of the 15-year-old girl in a locked folder in Google Photos.
She was 13 and he 20 when the original rape occurred that resulted in the child. He admitted he went to her house to see his child. They both admitted they knew that was wrong, but they did want to set up legal visitation. She said he came over when her dad was receiving cancer treatments.
Woman assaults officers
A 27-year-old Port Orchard woman was in Superior Court May 14 charged with assaulting officers.
Bail was $60,000. She faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Court filings show Bremerton police made the arrest May 13 at 9:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of 19th Street. An officer on patrol went to an encampment and saw a woman with orange and red hair take off when she saw him. She ended up being wanted on a Department of Corrections warrant for escaping community custody and arson.
She walked along the shoreline, and then hid in some bramble and smoked some drugs. Two officers converged on her when she would not give up, and she kicked them. One fell into the bramble, causing cuts and scrapes on his arms. She grabbed the other officer between his legs. She kicked another officer at the jail.
83 in a 35 mph zone
A 25-year-old Olalla man was in Superior Court May 12 facing two charges.
He could get five years in prison and a $10,000 fine for attempting to elude and a year in jail and a $5,000 fine for driving under the influence.
Court records say State Patrol troopers saw a speeding vehicle go into the oncoming lane westbound at Newberry Hill Road approaching Seabeck Highway. The vehicle increased its speed and did so even more when the patrol car’s emergency lights were flipped on. It was going 83 miles per hour in a 35 mph construction zone.
The driver was already losing control when he hit a ditch and bounced hard 5 feet sideways. The shaken driver pulled over. He immediately said he wanted to talk to a lawyer. The trooper recognized him from a DUI arrest in 2017. A passenger admitted to using fentanyl, as drug paraphernalia was found in the car.
Gas station arson
A 63-year-old Bremerton woman was in Superior Court May 13 charged with arson at a gas station.
Bail was $100,000. She faces life in prison and a $50,000 fine.
Court papers say a fire was reported April 2 at the Mobile gas station at 9571 Silverdale Way NW. The manager called officials a few days later after viewing surveillance footage. The video shows a person placing the nozzle of a pump near a trash can. The person puts something in the can and walks away. Soon after a fire starts.
A transient woman who hangs out in that area was seen with a shopping cart full of items and a long puffy black jacket with the hood pulled up and dark shoes, just like what was seen in the video.
Man strikes woman
A 27-year-old man from Indianola was in Kitsap County Superior Court May 12 arrested on a warrant from April of last year.
Bail was $150,000. He faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine for a violation of a court order.
Court records say Poulsbo police responded to a man assaulting a woman on the north off-ramp of Highway 3 at Olympic College Way. The victim said the man was living in a blue tent nearby in a homeless encampment. But police were unable to find and arrest him until recently.
