Kitsap County seeks survey input for sales tax treatment strategy

Deadline to complete survey is Oct. 15

Residents can take a community survey and provide input for Kitsap County’s update to the Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Therapeutic Court Program Strategic Plan.

The county’s Department of Human Services will make the survey at surveymonkey.com/r/NK2WGYT available through Oct. 15.

In September 2013, the Board of Commissioners adopted the treatment sales tax, authorizing one-tenth of 1 percent of sales and use tax to be designated for funding mental health, chemical dependency and therapeutic drug court programs. In collaboration with community leaders and subject-matter experts, the department developed a six-year strategic plan that guides funding distribution.

Gay Neal, program coordinator with Human Services, said the strategic plan “informs a commissioner-appointed citizens advisory committee as it reviews applications for annual treatment sales tax funding” and makes award recommendations to the county commissioners.

Gaps identified in the community survey will help community leaders and behavioral health professionals as they update the strategic plan, Neal said, and establish funding objectives and strategies for the future.
