Kingston’s Fourth of July main stage schedule announced
Published 6:00 pm Tuesday, June 3, 2008
The music festival in Mike Wallace Park leading up to the fireworks on the Fourth of July will feature some new sounds from a lot of local talent.
The stage schedule includes a variety of individual performances from 4-4:20 p.m., followed by the Blues Counselors from 4:30-6 p.m. The House of Cards puts on a show from 6:30-8 p.m. and from 8:30 p.m. until the fireworks start lighting up the sky, the band Freddie Pink brings the festival to its explosive finale.
The Blues Counselors features teachers and counselors from North Kitsap schools, who lead second lives as stellar musicians and include Rick Allyn, Pat Byrne, Teresa Fraser, Michael McCurdy and Stuart Wakefield. Scott Anderson, who’s been a part of favorite Kingston bands, leads House of Cards. Freddie Pink plays brassy blues and rock with a very danceable band that includes trumpets, saxophones and a full-on sound.
Tiny Town takes place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both July 3 and 4 (the dates were previously reported incorrectly as July 4-5) at Kola Kole Park. The stage there will feature local talent and the traditional slug races and pie-eating contests will be back, along with food vendors and amusements and crafts for kids.
The theme of this year’s Fourth of July parade is “From Sea to Shining Sea.” Other Fourth of July events include the annual pancake breakfast at the Kingston Cove Yacht Club and a special Kingston Farmers Market.
The Committees of the Fourth of July are in dire need of donations and sponsors to fund events, and volunteers to help keep the celebrations running smooth. A donation form is available on Page 28 of this Kingston Community News or make contributions to donation jars around town.
