International Baccalaureate program prompts visit from mayor

Port Orchard Mayor Tim Matthes visited Hidden Creek Elementary school on Feb. 20.

Port Orchard Mayor Tim Matthes visited Hidden Creek Elementary school on Feb. 20.

He was greeted by student leaders Owen Collins and Ashley Anderson, who acted as tour guides around the school and showcased student artwork and displays.

The tour concluded with the mayor addressing first and second grade students in the cafeteria. Students asked a variety of questions and shared their thoughts on the job of mayor.

Hidden Creek Elementary is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.

As part of their units of inquiry and study, first and second grade students are focusing on community and government.
