High winds, rain down trees, cut power to thousands in South Kitsap

Thousands are without power in Olalla; Port Orchard has 159 without power, PSE reports.

As of 8:07 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, Puget Power reports that 159 homes in Port Orchard are still without power due to a powerful windstorm that blew across the Puget Sound region. In Olalla, however, 1,713 customers are without power.

In total, almost 224,000 customers are without power in the Puget Power grid from Thurston, Kitsap and Whatcom counties.

Puget Power says they are bringing in crews from Canada to assist with the overload.

Throughout South Kitsap, tree branches and some limbs litter the roadways, creating conditions calling for cautious driving.

South Kitsap Fire and Rescue say no injuries have been reported as a result of the windstorm. A 10-year-old girl in Federal Way and a Gig Harbor man were killed by a falling branch and tree.
