POULSBO — Two key positions filled, two more to go.

Troy Grossman was formally promoted from Poulsbo police officer to sergeant on March 4, succeeding John Halsted, who was promoted to deputy chief in February. Halsted, in turn, succeeded Bob Wright, who retired.

The department will now recruit for a new officer, and hopes to someday soon hire a school resource officer in a partnership with the North Kitsap School District.

Currently, the department has 19 personnel: the chief, deputy chief, three sergeants, 10 officers, one detective and three clerks.

Chief Alan Townsend said Grossman has been a Poulsbo police officer for more than 21 years. He served as detective with the Poulsbo/Bremerton Police joint drug and vice task force, firearms instructor, field training officer, marine patrol officer, and coordinator of the reserve officer program.

He chaired the department’s Fishline charity drive and participated in Shop with a Cop for underprivileged children. North Kitsap Herald readers voted him “Best Police Officer in North Kitsap” in 2009, 2011, and 2012.
