Forecasters were wrong!

"The summer predicted to have so many problems in North Kitsap ended up to be one of our very best. Back in May, when gas prices soared, local businesses were openly worried that the tourists who fuel downtown Poulsbo and neighboring economies with their dollars might stay home. It turned out not to be a problem. Visitors who may have gulped hard at the gas pump total, nonetheless came in large numbers to enjoy the balmy, sunny days. "

“The summer predicted to have so many problems in North Kitsap ended up to be one of our very best. Our weather was supposed to have been a problem, too. We were supposed to be experiencing the effects of La Nina–or one of those special effects–and have a colder, wetter summer. Wrong again. This was a summer remarkable for its sun and lack of rainfall. Folks who stayed home to enjoy the weather did their share of hard work. Volunteers transformed Lions Park in Poulsbo into a safe, fun place for kids to play. Other volunteers weeded, planted, weeded and weeded some more at Raab Park. They taught hundreds of local children the joy of gardening and created a showplace garden for the community. Now, we’re all coming back to the reality of a school year just beginning, an election season looming, and a predicted cold, rainy winter ahead. As we pack up the barbecue for another year, and locate the lost leaf rakes, a few reminders are always good: 1. The Burn Ban is still in effect. A few raindrops don’t make a dent in the weeks of dry weather. Don’t burn anything-except maybe a hot dog on the grill-until the ban is lifted. 2. School buses will be rolling on Wednesday. Especially during the first weeks, use extra patience with youngsters who may not yet know all the safety tips about where to wait and how to walk safely. Don’t pass a stopped school bus on a narrow road. If the flashing lights are on–stop and wait. 3. Enjoy. Spend a few minutes of these waning summer days enjoying the natural wonder of our area. We predict you’ll be glad you chose to live here! “
