For the fourth day this week: no SKSD classes on Thursday

Students will have to celebrate Valentine’s Day at home

PORT ORCHARD — There will be no classes conducted at South Kitsap School District schools on Thursday, Valentine’s Day.

District officials announced today that for the fourth consecutive day this week, schools will be closed due to the after-effects of the so-called “Snowmaggedon” series of snowstorms that pummeled the Puget Sound region beginning last Friday.

In a Facebook posting, the district reported the reasons for yet another day of classes:

“The condition of side roads is still poor. More than half of our students ride the bus and many sidewalks and bus stops are not accessible. It is not safe for our students to be standing and walking in the road with cars.

“Thank you to Kitsap County, Port Orchard Public Works and our own Facilities Team for the constant work on clean up, plowing and digging out. Thank you also to our families for your patience as we deal with the snowstorm aftermath.”

The school district didn’t indicate whether classes on Friday are also in danger of being canceled.
