Firing up engines…for a good cause

More often than not, Kingston and Poulsbo don’t have a heck of a lot in common. Residents from both can attest to this and, yes, even take a certain degree in pride in the fact that they are very different threads sewn into the fabric of North Kitsap.

More often than not, Kingston and Poulsbo don’t have a heck of a lot in common. Residents from both can attest to this and, yes, even take a certain degree in pride in the fact that they are very different threads sewn into the fabric of North Kitsap.

Even so, folks from both this weekend will take time to appreciate the sights and sounds of cars, trucks, motorcycles, dragsters and even tractors in two distinct events. Fortunately, organizers didn’t want folks to get too exhausted (that one was just too good to pass up) in one day and opted to offer one gathering on each weekend day.

Little Norway opens its doors to little boys and girls of all ages from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday as Touch a Truck rolls into its 17th year at Poulsbo Village. The shopping center will play host to hundreds of tykes and numerous big rigs, tractors and emergency vehicles kids just can’t seem to get enough of. Honking horns and blaring sirens will be the order of the day.

On Sunday, famous dragsters, sizzling hot rods and smoking motorcycles will burn some rubber in Kennedy Industrial Park (off State Route 104, on Minder Road) “Just Because.”

Just because what?

North Kitsap’s needy. The show and shine may only be entering its third year but it helps get motor enthusiasts all revved up to help ShareNet Food Bank. The fund-raiser, which takes place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., brings folks throughout the state to enjoy some of the finest vehicles around.

Just Because brought in $16,600 for ShareNet during its first two years and with the event’s growing popularity, the 2005 show should provide the area’s underprivileged another big boost.

Whether it’s helping the neighbor or getting the kids out for some fun, NK car fans are certainly covered this weekend.
