Elementary, middle schools locked down after husband allegedly threatens to kill wife

Poulsbo Elementary and Poulsbo Middle schools went on lockdown after the husband of an elementary employee allegedly threatened to kill her, according to Police Chief Alan Townsend.

POULSBO — Poulsbo Elementary and Poulsbo Middle schools went on lockdown Oct. 29 after the husband of an elementary employee allegedly threatened to kill her, according to Police Chief Alan Townsend.

“He made threats to kill his wife via text message,” he said. The employee received the message while she was working.

The schools went into lockdown at 11:40 a.m. on the recommendation of the police department. The schools were locked down for about 30 minutes.

The suspect never left his Suquamish home and was arrested there, Townsend said.

The employee who received the text message left the building. Before leaving, she told other school employees that her husband “may come to kill her,” Townsend said. The school employee “thought the threat was pretty valid,” he said.

The woman’s husband has a previous arrest for trying to run her over, Townsend said.

Assistant Superintendent Chris Willits sent an email to parents.

“This was unrelated to the North Kitsap High School situation last night,” Willits wrote. “Poulsbo Police were searching for a suspect in the vicinity and the two schools were locked down as a precaution. Police were able to apprehend the suspect. All students and staff are safe and handled the lockdown extremely well.”
