Editorial – Our grand old lady still has it

Any doubts, questions or concerns that North Kitsap loves Sammy Quinn should have been put to rest this week. The grand lady of Kingston, who credits support of the community for helping her through her most recent bout with cancer, received more letters than some of our political candidates after a single letter questioned her value to our readers.

Pro-Quinn letters have been streaming in and will likely continue on this page for weeks to come. Are we surprised by this?

Not really. While the Herald took some heat over what many consider a “vicious attack” on a nice old lady, we pretty much figured that readers wouldn’t sit back on this one.

Sammy called us Monday, after the initial letter ran and said, “I thought you guys were trying to tell me something. That you didn’t want me to do my column anymore.”

Nothing could be farther from the truth. It’s great to have Sammy back, on the mend and writing again. She indeed reminds us all that we can all still find great joy in the smallest things that life has to offer.
