Dry weather: Air quality warning issued, Port Gamble forest park closed

The Puget Sound Air Quality Agency issued an air quality warning Monday afternoon.

According to the group, air quality is getting worse due to wildfire smoke entering the area. A press release stated they expect air quality to become “unhealthy to sensitive groups” overnight and throughout Tuesday. Winds Tuesday afternoon could help clear the area of smoke, and air quality is expected to be moderate to good by Wednesday.

Until then, those in sensitive groups should remain indoors as much as possible with the windows closed and limit physical activities.

Port Gamble trails closed

Due to extremely dry conditions and elevated fire dangers in the Port Gamble forest block, the Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park has been closed. A press release from the Kitsap County Parks Department said Pope Resources has exercised the Forest Tract Declaration and Reservation of Timber and Other Rights Agreement and is temporarily prohibiting public access to the park. The park will remain closed until further notice when conditions improve and become more moderate.
