Driver distracted by phone causes rollover crash in Bremerton

BREMERTON — A single vehicle rollover crash resulted in the closure of State Route 3, just south of the Bremerton Airport, Thursday morning, after a 63-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle, while distracted by her cell phone.

The driver admitted to officers that she had been distracted while using her cell phone as she was traveling northbound on State Route 3. The driver drifted off the shoulder of the roadway and overcorrected, crossing into the opposite lane of travel before leaving the roadway and rolling over. Two children, ages 6 and 9 were also in the car at the time of the collision.

A witness reported the crash and Bremerton Fire and Aid were dispatched to the scene. The roadway was reopened around noon Thursday.

The driver was transported to the hospital with shoulder pain, but the children in the vehicle only suffered minor scrapes and scratches.
