KING COUNTY – The Washington State Patrol advises motorists to drive carefully and to be aware of potentially treacherous driving conditions this time of year.

A recent serious crash on Maple Valley Highway in King County showed how dangerous icy roads can be. On Jan. 6 around 7:25 a.m. a small red pickup truck was traveling southbound on Maple Valley Highway when the driver lost control on the icy roadway. The pickup truck crossed over the center turn lane and struck a black Jetta traveling north. WSP troopers and detectives responded and determined there was no impairment involved and the icy conditions were the main contributing factor. The driver of the Jetta was transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

“It is imperative that drivers are aware of the road conditions and adjust their driving accordingly. Slower speed, greater following distance and allow for more time to reach your destination,” WSP stated in a press release.
