Crash on Highway 305 causes injuries, shuts down highway

Two airlift medical helicopters were called to Bainbridge Island after injuries were reported in a multiple vehicle crash just after 6 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 305.

The three-car crash occurred on Highway 305 near Agatewood Road, just south of Agate Pass Bridge, and traffic on the highway was blocked as emergency responders assisted those involved.

Multiple aid cars, at least four police cars, and several other units from the Bainbridge Island Fire Department responded to the scene.

Initial details of the collision were few.

An air transport was set up at the Bainbridge Island Fire Department’s Station 21, and a 26-year-old man who reportedly received head injuries in the crash was expected to be taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.

Another person involved in the crash was also being airlifted to Seattle, from a landing zone set up for the other medivac flight at the Bainbridge Island Fire Department’s station on Phelps Road.

Highway 305 was expected to be closed until 8 p.m. Wednesday because of the crash, which left a large spill of fuel or oil on the highway.

Traffic was backed up in both directions on Highway 305.

On the Poulsbo side of the bridge, traffic was backed up to the George fireworks stand.
