Court report: Man arrested on suspicion of DUI denied request for ‘unbiased’ blood test

A 28-year-old Bremerton man was charged with DUI after he hit his girlfriend and then drove a Jeep Cherokee near Gorst May 12. A state trooper contacted the man, who told the trooper he had two drinks did not want to go to jail on “some kind of technicality” and refused to take a field sobriety test and a breath test.

The following cases were filed in Kitsap County District Court:

• A 28-year-old Bremerton man was charged with DUI after he hit his girlfriend and then drove a Jeep Cherokee near Gorst May 12. A state trooper contacted the man, who told the trooper he had two drinks did not want to go to jail on “some kind of technicality” and refused to take a field sobriety test and a breath test. The man was arrested and an e-cigarette with marijuana leaves painted on it was found on him. The man asked for an “unbiased third-party test” to do a blood draw to check his BAC. The trooper said there was no third-party option, and that he could get a search warrant for a blood draw. The man did not like that response and became angry and argumentative, according to court documents.

• A 34-year-old Bremerton woman was charged with controlled substances homicide. She allegedly administered a “fat load” of heroin and meth to a man Feb. 24. The man then had an asthma attack and died from lack of oxygen to the brain, according to court documents. Bail was set at $500,000.

• A 50-year-old Bremerton man was charged with assault in the fourth degree, and malicious mischief after he drank a “large amount of vodka” and allegedly texted his roommate that he was going to kill her and her boyfriend just for fun. He then allegedly smashed the boyfriend’s car window and punched the roommate.

• A 29-year-old Seabeck man was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of stolen property. Deputies were called to assist the man because he was thought to have overdosed. They found him semiconscious and sitting in a 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck. A syringe was next to him. Deputies found two “rather expensive looking” bicycles in the truck. One was white with pink handles, which didn’t seem like the kind of bicycle the man would ride. “They seemed very out of place as the value of the bicycle appeared more than the entire truck.” Bolt cutters were also in truck. The man admitted he stole the bicycle and deputies returned the bicycle to its owner.

• A 36-year-old Bremerton woman was charged with burglary in the second degree and forgery. She tried to use counterfeit money including a fake $100 and fake $20 bill at the Port Orchard Walmart. She had earlier been trespassed from the store. She said she did not know the bills were fake. She also had marijuana in her bra. Bail was set at $10,000.

• A 70-year-old Bremerton man was charged with DUI after he crashed his Kia Soul into a Chevrolet Trailblazer near the intersection of State Route 303 and Brownsville Highway May 12. The man was driving south in the northbound lane and crashed into the northbound Chevrolet. The man told a trooper he “just sort of blacked out … I black out two to three times a month due to blood pressure medications.” The man smelled of alcohol, failed the field sobriety test and had a BAC of .137.

• A 27-year-old Silverdale man was charged with DUI after he passed out at a stop light while driving his Ford F-150 pickup truck near Madison Avenue and Highway 305 on Bainbridge Island May 15. Other motorists honked at the man as his truck sat at the green light. A trooper had to yell at the man to wake him up. The man said he drank 2-6 beers at the ballgame and that he had also smoked marijuana. His BAC was .102.

• A 31-year-old Bremerton man was charged with malicious mischief in the second degree. He allegedly became angry when asked to leave a residence on Hartford Avenue in Bremerton May 13. He jumped out of the second story window and then smashed four windows of Volkswagen Jetta parked outside. Bail was set at $15,000.

• A 31-year-old Bremerton man was charged with burglary in the second degree. A Port Orchard Police officer allegedly found the man hiding under a vehicle at a car dealership with a screwdriver and pocket knife May 14. A nearby Jeep Cherokee, GMC Jimmy and Chevrolet Impala on the lot were found to have their steering columns dismantled. Bail was set at $60,000.
