Alzheimer Association caregiver support group

Caring for someone with memory loss? Need information or support? The Alzheimer’s Association family caregiver support groups provide a consistent and caring place for people to learn, share and gain emotional support from others who are also on a unique journey of providing care to a person with memory loss.

Meetings are held from 1-2:30 p.m. the first Monday of the month at Harrison Support Services Building, Kitsap Room, 4205 Wheaton Way, Bremerton.

Workshop to help employers understand financial incentives

The Department of Labor & Industries is offering an informative workshop to inform employers about new financial incentives for State Fund employers to assist with returning injured workers to productive, medically approved light duty. The workshop will be 10-11:30 a.m. at the Labor & Industries office, 500 Pacific Ave., Suite 500, Bremerton.

The workshop is an overview of the Stay at Work program, and will cover instructions on how to apply for the program reimbursements, employer requirements, how it benefits the employer and employee, how the program can reduce claim costs and what resources are available with L&I to assist with the Stay at Work program.

Volunteers needed for Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels Kitsap has immediate openings for volunteers to serve meals at the Poulsbo Senior Center on Wednesdays and Pinewood Manor Apartments in Bremerton on Mondays. The time commitment is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. one day a week.

Kitsap County Haunted Fairgrounds

From 5-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays in October, and Monday, Oct. 31, the Kitsap County Fairgrounds will host the annual haunting. Tickets are $5 for the lights-on, no-scare tour from 5-6 p.m., or $15 for regular admission. VIP tickets are available for $20, and are good for two trips through the haunting and front-line privileges.

Movie event at SEEfilm Cinemas Oct. 29

SEEfilm and USS Turner Joy are teaming up to bring you a hauntingly fun movie event for the whole family.

“Hotel Transylvania” will be shown at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at SEEfilm, 655 Fourth St. in Bremerton.

There will be Turner Joy giveaways in the lobby at the booth, and discount vouchers. Proceeds go to help the ship’s preservation fund for dry dock. The whole family is encouraged to join children are welcome to dress up in costume.

Financial adviser hosts coffee club monthly

John L. Moroney, a local Edward Jones financial advisor, will host a coffee club at 8:30 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 2416 NW Myhre Road Suite 102, Silverdale.

“The coffee club offers us an opportunity to learn from one another and receive market updates,” Moroney said.

“I look forward to keeping individual investors informed about the current market and economy, as well as have fun and get to know some of my neighbors.”

Wild mushroom show Oct. 30 at fairgrounds

The annual Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society mushroom show is 1-5 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Presidents Hall at Kitsap County Fairgrounds, 1050 Fairgrounds Road NW, Bremerton. See prime examples of over 150 wild mushrooms gathered from around the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas.

Attendees can view displays of edible and inedible mushrooms, learn how mushrooms are used as dyes and in medicines, engage the kids in mushroom-related crafts, have a taste of the region’s fabulous Chanterelles and purchase books and self made or commercial kits for growing edible mushrooms at home.
