Local student makes provost’s honor roll

Alexandra R. Poynter, of Bremerton, earned a place on the 2016 spring semester Provost’s Honor Roll for the University of Wyoming. To qualify, undergraduates must have completed between six and 12 credits with at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the semester.

Girls on the Run coach registration open

Girls on the Run of West Sound needs 60 coaches for the fall season. Register to be a coach and help make a difference in a girl’s life. Coaches with a child in the program receive a $25 discount.

Coach training sessions are held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10-11 and 5-10 p.m. Sept. 19 at Harrison Medical Center in Silverdale. Register at www.raceplanner.com/volunteer/signup/gotrws-fall-2016-coach.

Washington State Parks free day Aug. 25

In honor of the National Park Service Centennial, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is offering free entrance to state parks Thursday, Aug. 25, the 100th anniversary of the federal agency. Day-use visitors will not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks.

Free days apply only to day-use visits with vehicles, not overnight stays or rented facilities.

There will be two more free days in 2016: Sept. 24 and Nov. 11.

Naval Undersea Museum opens two new exhibits Aug. 19

The U.S. Naval Undersea Museum opens two new exhibits, “Preserving peace: The Navy’s strategic deterrence program” and “Saving submariners: Submarine rescue and escape.”

At 11 a.m. Aug. 19 the museum will hold a double exhibit opening for the new permanent exhibits. The event will include remarks by retired Rear Adm. Samuel Cox, a ribbon cutting and a reception.

Celebrate with a week of events called “Deep Sea Week: Boomers” from Aug. 19-26. All events will take place at the museum and are free to the public, and include a community story swap, education programs for children and families, curator-led exhibit tours and reflection days.

Getting started with Android devices

The classes will help users develop a general understanding of their device. Vino and Vinyasa with Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run of West Sound is partnering with Viva Flow Yoga to offer a 90-minute, all-level yoga class, followed by a 90-minute wine tasting to cap off the evening. The class is 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 at Viva Flow Yoga in downtown Bremerton. The class is $45; all proceeds go to Girls on the Run of West Sound. Patron Appreciation Day set for Aug. 16

The Downtown Bremerton Friends of the Library is hosting a patron appreciation day from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 612 Fifth St., Bremerton. Eighth annual Kitsap Wine Festival set for Aug. 13 in Bremerton

The annual Kitsap Wine Festival at Harborside Fountain Park celebrates food, wine and community from 2-5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13.
