CKSD kindergarten registration begins Feb. 4

CKSD continues as a leader in free, full-day kindergarten

SILVERDALE – Eleven years ago, Central Kitsap School District offered its first full-day kindergarten class. That was just the beginning. Parents, teachers, administrators and school board members recognized the academic, social and emotional benefits for students. So the district steadily increased its number of full-day kindergarten options.

Today — thanks to the success of last year’s school support levy — the district provides free, full-day kindergarten at all twelve of its elementary schools. With so many years committed to the full-day option, these schools also boast experienced teachers recognized as leaders in their field.

“We’re proud that we’ve been offering full-day kindergarten for so many years,” said Superintendent David McVicker. “It’s been the right thing for our students, our families and our community. I’m also proud of our amazing group of kindergarten teachers. If you have a student starting kindergarten next year, there’s never been a better time!”

Kindergarten registration for the 2015-16 school year will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 4. Families are encouraged to register at their neighborhood elementary school between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

To register for kindergarten, children must be five years old on or before Aug. 31. Parents should bring a copy of their child’s state-issued birth certificate, proof of immunization and verification of their current address.
