POULSBO — City officials are exploring the possibility of adding a trail park near Olhava Way and NW Olympic College Way.

Tentatively called Vista Park, the proposed quarter-mile long trail would sit behind undeveloped commercial lots directly across from Home Depot.

The city has set aside $50,000 for trail development. The trail would be 6 feet wide with two to four areas for benches and/or picnic tables.

However, development of the trail has hit a snag. The former property owner, whom the city was working with, went into foreclosure in October and the land was returned to its previous owners, according to Mayor Becky Erickson.

Trustees will likely be appointed to handle the property, Erickson said. She’s going to wait until January to reach out to the trustees.

The goal for 2016 is to come to an agreement with the trustees and then begin construction of the trail, Erickson said.

“It’s to everyone’s best interest that this [park] happens,” Erickson said.

The trail is expected to take a couple years to complete.
