Changing guard | Little Boston Library | October

By TOMI WHALEN

For many years I had the good fortune to work with Sue Jones at Little Boston Library and she gave me every opportunity to learn about library service. Jones retired as manager on Aug. 19 and many friends came to wish her well.

Thanks to the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe and the Kitsap Regional Library Foundation for helping the Little Boston Library staff host this event for more than 150 people. No one can ever replace Jones. I thank her for all she has done for the library.

The Little Boston Library will also be participating in One Book, One Community events in October. We encourage people to read “The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” by Jamie Ford, about a clash of cultures during World War II. We will discuss the book at 11 a.m. Oct. 6 and at noon we will have a presentation about Kitsap Regional Library’s proposed levy. You will also have an opportunity before the library opens to try out some new library services, including Playaways (tiny audiobooks), enhanced databases (to assist with career building) and new downloadable material.

Other fall events include:

• Origami for Families, 4:30 p.m., Oct. 12

• “The Karate Kid” film showing, 2 p.m., Oct. 22.

• Japanese calligraphy and green tea tasting for teens and adults, 6 p.m., Oct. 25.
