Change of command at Naval Base Kitsap

Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) will hold a Change of Command ceremony on Friday, Sept. 9 when Capt. Thomas A. Zwolfer is relieved by Capt. Edward A. Schrader as commanding officer of the nation’s third-largest naval installation.

BREMERTON — Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) will hold a Change of Command ceremony on Friday, Sept. 9 when Capt. Thomas A. Zwolfer is relieved by Capt. Edward A. Schrader as commanding officer of the nation’s third-largest naval installation.

“Serving as commanding officer of Naval Base Kitsap has been an honor and privilege,” said Zwolfer. “Working with the outstanding team members at NBK, as well as being welcomed as a member of the Kitsap community, has made this tour a highlight of my naval career.”

Zwolfer assumed command of NBK in August 2013, having previously been assigned to the Undersea Warfare Division on the Navy Staff as well as serving as Commanding Officer of USS Bremerton (SSN 698).

His next assignment is as Chief of Staff, Navy Region Northwest, headquartered at NBK-Bangor.

Capt. Schrader assumes command of the installation immediately following his assignment as Branch Head, Operations, Evaluation and Training, Strategic Systems Programs in Washington, D.C.

Those with base access are invited to attend the ceremony, which begins at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, on NBK-Bremerton’s Pier Charlie. Parking is limited so carpooling is encouraged.
